Commercial Freight Solutions
Transloading & Yard Services
Commercial Rail-to-Truck Transloading
We receive inbound railcars at our private Puyallup siding and transfer cargo directly to outbound trucks for delivery to your project site or distribution point. Seamless rail-to-road handoffs for steel, pipe, and heavy industrial freight.
Heavy-Lift Railcar Discharge
Our on-site heavy-duty lift equipment handles single picks up to 60,000 lbs, with tandem lifting procedures for ultra-heavy loads. We safely discharge flatcars and gondolas carrying structural steel, coils, piling, and oversized industrial components.
Load Shifting & Step-Deck Reworks
When a load arrives out of compliance or needs to be reconfigured for legal highway transport, we handle the shift. Our yard crew repositions, reblocks, and re-secures freight on step-decks and flatbeds so your truck rolls legal and on schedule.
Freight Staging & Yard Management
Our 8-acre secured laydown yard gives you a flexible hold point between rail discharge and final delivery. We stage, sort, and inventory your freight – whether it’s moving out tomorrow or needs to sit until your project is ready.

What Is Transloading?
Transloading is the transfer of cargo from one mode of transportation to another at an intermediate facility – in VVD’s case, from an inbound railcar directly to outbound trucks for final delivery to your project site or distribution point. Rather than keeping freight on a single mode from origin to destination, transloading gives you a strategically located handoff point where cargo can be received, staged, sorted, and dispatched on your schedule.
At V. Van Dyke’s Puyallup facility, that handoff happens at a private rail siding equipped for heavy industrial freight – steel coils, structural pipe, fabricated components, and oversized project cargo that standard facilities aren’t built to handle.
When Does Transloading Make Sense?
Your freight arrives by rail but your project sites are on the road.
Rail is efficient for long-haul bulk movement, but it doesn’t deliver to a job site. Transloading at our Puyallup yard bridges that gap – your railcar arrives, we discharge and stage the load, and it goes out on trucks to wherever your project needs it.
You're receiving large or overweight industrial cargo.
Steel coils, piling, and heavy fabricated components often exceed what a standard cross-dock is equipped to handle. Our 60,000 lb single-pick lift capacity and tandem lifting procedures are built specifically for this type of freight.
You need to split a single railcar delivery across multiple destinations.
If one incoming load is going to multiple project sites or customers, we stage and sort at the yard so each outbound truck is loaded correctly before it leaves.
Your freight needs to be held before it's ready to move.
Our 8-acre laydown yard provides secure short-term and long-term outdoor storage between discharge and final delivery – useful when project timelines shift or staging flexibility is part of the plan.
From port arrival to final mile delivery, V. Van Dyke manages the entire logistics lifecycle to keep your most complex projects on track.
